The United Nations has been diplomatically trying to persuade Burma leaders for a long time. They tried by sending envoys. They talked with beautiful diplomatic words, but people have already known in advance that they cannot realistically hope for anything before the UN envoys come. The UN could not do anything for Burma.
They could not count even death after last September’s uprising. Since then we have deeply disappointed by the UN’s failure.
The United Nation is likely very afraid of confrontation with China and Russia. Whenever both China and Russia say no, the United Nations was unable to change to say yes. They are always accepting and showing a kind of “obedience” to China and Russia. Were there any severe words or correcting comments made by UN leaders to Burma leaders? They have no authority to change Burma into a nation based on democracy. So the world is very dangerous under the leadership of cowards.
I wonder why most of the world seems content to be merely on-lookers for the Burmese people who are being persecuted. They have no weapons and not like others. They are relatively helpless now. They want to freely survive like you. Even Buddhist monks who stay away from killing are also longing for US, UK and France to enter the country by force. Why? Because they want to see the people with enough food to continue to survive.
You cannot diplomatically persuade Burmese military leaders to give up their kingships. Even the Buddha and the Gods will be unable to preach to them or to guide them. They regard themselves as the best players. They have already decided how to win tomorrow’s match. Remember that you cannot win by playing with them without weapons, but only with the help of weapons. What is Ban Ki Moon’s suggestion? Isn’t it clear that he is just playing a diplomatic game? If so, how many of us have to die for his diplomatic game?

What’s happening in Burma is a travesty, but there are rules of sovereignty that must be upheld. Without them, nation states could easily be taken over without any provocation whatsoever. If some other country invades, with weapons drawn, those who will suffer will be the Burmese people themselves. If diplomacy can be used it should be and an invasion should be the last resort.

Also, western countries haven’t been the most helpful in freeing other countries from repressive regimes. Look at Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge. Vietnam stepped up and defeated them while the west was content to let millions of people die.

Myanmar is secluded from the rest of the world in many things. This third world country is not the major supplier of any commodity the world cannot do without. It has no deep political connections with even its neighbors, leave alone the West. More importantly, its dictators have not attracted world attention by openly offending and challenging any big powers. They live in complete isolation, eating out the wealth of their country.

Sadly, the world is not bothered.

UN was always ineffective...it was the loony of some of the most powerful nations of the world. It could not do anything on its own... so it's useless all the time to look up to UN to do something in the time of need. it needs permission from the big daddy, all the time.

I don't know what type of democracy will be effective in Burma. can anyone help me with that and everyone doesn't doubt but knows that there are a few leavers that the world organizations and UN can pull on Burma. Burmese fate is in darkness, sorry to say.

Yes this surely the case. UN and all the other organizations have failed to put the military junta down. UN has exhausted all the restrictions and sanctions, but of no use. By doing so even, UN has indirectly punished the innocent, not the guilty. So what is next? Is always a billion dollar question, and there remains only one option, that is not viable. hence the dilemma and the suffering continues at the same time.

see it's not the poor nations of the world but the power politics between some of the most powerful nations has always done the damage. there are two groups who are fighting for the supremacy. Ppl above have criticized UN for being ineffective, but that is certainly not the case. Any UN action in the world depends on the security council voting and there sometimes Russia and china and sometimes US and UK who block any move in favor of their cronies. Hence the situation like one in burma goes on in many other parts of the world.

military junta is not answering to the suffering of the ppl coz they have grabbed power forcibly and hence they are hell bothered. When you have leaders who don’t give a damn about the suffering of their own people that they purportedly govern then the time to talk to the leaders of Burma is over and the time for action is here...

So UN is not to blame all the time. The two powerful neighbors i.e India and above all China, the protector of the Burmese leaders, is mum and has done nothing. If they would have come firmly on the issue, UN will be having little to do in Burma. but nothing...nothing all the time only tacit support...

well ppl nothing doing but only top asking America to help out! do something on your own or else ask China, they've got tons of money and a modern military. Ask Europe, they've always got their hand out for help, let them return the favor. I'm sick and tired of everyone's hand out towards America in their time of need, then knife us in the back the minute we're not looking.

US is struck in a useless or unbeatable war. U ppl are stuck in a war in Iraq and Afghanistan over what? The USA needs be in in Burma, Dafur, Zimbabwe not not on foolish war on terror. Their cries are falling on deaf ears as administrations across the globe worry about what to do in the Middle East. Has so much strength and money been spent on suffering humanity, they would have been on peace.
